Letto's "Ephemera"

With bits of reminiscences

There is a time when that one long road trip is paved in the bottom of your heart. Yes, for me that’s when I went across the island of Java with my college friends driving a rented car by ourselves in 2007.

That’s the time when we realised that the road was stretched far ahead (there was no cross-Java Toll road at that time), and very tiring to be adventured upon.
“I do remember hate that came after .. Broken heart ..
Sadness that make me so helpless .. I can fight ..
I can remember how long it last ..
I'm sure it went away so freakin fast ..”
The lyrics above, which came from “Ephemera”, the song by the Indonesian Band Letto, were the lyrics I was humming on the most part of the journey. The song itself was played on my  phone at the time (a Sony Ericsson W810i which is a Walkman Edition) together with other Letto’s songs.

The long road trip was not smoothly traversed. Started with late departure from Surabaya started from our University gate, quarrels between trip members, getting lost at Jakarta without the convenience of Smartphone Map like nowadays (before welcomed to sleep at friend’s family house at Ciganjur near Gus Dur’s house), passing by Puncak at evening the day after, eating at Bandung at night, and getting back home at Surabaya just 3 hours before the road affected by Bengawan Solo’s flooding.
“Far too many emotion that taint my soul before my faith
and often I drown in the moment
when in the end they all .. ephemera”
That long road, as the lyrics stated above, nowadays just became ephemera, a temporal thing which at that time felt so surreal and entrapping.
